I was ambling through Stockbridge Market in Edinburgh today and thoroughly enjoying the delicious smell of handmade cuisine bubbling and cooking away in the open air (I might, just might have sampled one or two dishes…), when I came face to face with the wildlife: otherwise known as the jewellery of Alexis Southam.
Trained in Jewellery Design at Middlesex University, and now based in Edinburgh, Alexis takes inspiration from all things botanical, particularly the wildlife and scenery of Scotland.
Every piece is handmade by Alexis using traditional metalsmithing techniques.
Each of her designs are based on the patterns and silhouettes from her original original drawings, which are then recreated in silver using intricate saw piercing work.
Alexis has also branched out into other media – with a gorgeous range of acrylic jewellery based on her artwork.
You can find out more about Alexis and her work here.
Stockbridge Market, Edinburgh is open every Sunday, 10am – 5pm. Click here for more information.
