On November 30th the world celebrates St Andrew’s Day, Scotland’s national day. It’s party time in Scotland, there are events being held around the world, are you joining in the celebrations?


What is St Andrew’s Day?

The 30th November is St. Andrew’s Day,the feast day of Saint Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland.

Although most strongly associated with Scotland, Saint Andrew is also the patron saint of Greece, Romania, Russia, the Ukraine, the  Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and Saint Andrew, Barbados.

In Scotland, and many countries with Scottish connections, St Andrew’s Day is marked with a celebration of Scottish culture with traditional Scottish food, music and dance.


I bet you didn’t know…

In parts of Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Russia and Romania St. Andrew’s Day w as once a day of magic and superstition.  If you wanted to find out more about the man you were going to marry, this was the time


My future husband will be an amorphous blob. I hear it’s well-paid…

Apparently, pouring hot wax from a candle through a key hole into cold water will allow you to divine your future husband’s profession from the shape of the resulting piece (anyone know what shape would represent an accountant?)
