Tick Tock, Tick Tock

“Tikker, the death watch that makes every second count”.

Everyone expects things to go a bit peculiar in October.  It is the spooky month after all.  But things appear to have taken a slightly more morbid twist than normal in the press recently.

“We’re building a watch that counts down your life, in order to make the world a better place!” claim Tikker, the company that is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to create a “death watch.”

It seems unlikely at first, but the purpose of the product  is, according to its developers, to motivate us to make the right choices, to make the most of our lives, to be happy.

It might seem depressing at first, but think about it for a minute.  How often have you wished for that exotic holiday; to see your name in print; to do something daring?  Lots I’ll bet.  And nearly every time we pack up our aspirations whilst real life (read that as bills, Eastenders and apathy) takes over for yet another year.

Tick… tock…tick…tock…

Perhaps if we knew how much time we had left, we’d make better use of it. This is certainly the attitude taken by Helen Fawkes, a woman with incurable cancer,  in her inspirational article  “A list for living, not a bucket list”.

Regardless of whether or not you find the idea of a “death watch” abhorrent, something that motivates us to  live our lives to the fullest has to have some merit, don’t you think?
