4N

The watch brand 4N has produced this innovative watch which highlights the return of the minute jumping hand. Using a design inspired by a digital layout 4N have created a visually distinctive time piece. The design aesthetic reflects the intelligent configuration of intermittent rotating discs that allow you to read the time. The device uses a system of jump by constant force guaranteeing a minimum expenditure of energy whatever the degree of movement.

During the development of the design a number of now patented technical issues had to be overcame to create the striking design. The entire process of fabricating the watch is carried out by manual manufacturing processes. The watch movement stems from a number of complex settings of the kinematic discs to solve problems of balance inertia, and friction for optimum movement and a minimum expenditure of energy.

The mechanical nature of the watch produces a beautiful intriguing design. The visible layering of the functional mechanical parts with varying surface finishes and textures create an intrigue and fascinating design. The vibrant orange colour of the numbers offset by the deep greys create an impressive visual.

4N was designed by François Quentin, a freelance designer since 1986. Quentin has designed number of watches and was also the co founder of HAUTLENCE. Since graduating in watch repair in 2006 Quentin has been exhibiting his natural gift for design coupled with his love of mechanics and computer science which embodies the 4N design.

Another great part of the 4N company is their design development video. The scaled up design of the moving parts is a fantastic insight into the production and development of a fantastic innovative design.
